Independent Higher Education Australia (IHEA) congratulates Professor Kerri-Lee Krause’s appointment as the Chief Commissioner of the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) from 7 April 2025.
Professor Krause has extensive experience in leadership and governance of the higher education sector, including as the Vice-Chancellor and President of Avondale University and Chair of the Higher Education Standards Panel.
IHEA CEO, the Hon. Dr Peter Hendy welcomed the appointment noting that “Professor Krause has significant experience and knowledge of higher education and is highly qualified and well regarded across the sector. Professor Krause is an excellent choice to undertake such a critical leadership role with the national regulator”.
Professor Krause’s experiences span the entirety of the higher education sector and in addition to her leadership of an independent higher education provider, she also served as a director of the IHEA Board from 2021 to 2024, which she did with integrity and distinction.
Dr Hendy noted that “it is pleasing that in making this appointment, the Australian Government has acknowledged Professor Krause’s experience and understanding of the independent higher education sector through her previous roles as a Vice-Chancellor. IHEA looks forward to working with Professor Krause”.
IHEA also wishes to acknowledge the contribution of Ms Nieuwenhuis as acting Chief Commissioner over the past 9 months. We also welcome the appointment of Professor Elizabeth More AM, who we note is a former board member of the Council of Private Higher Education, and look forward to working with her.
