Independent Higher Education Australia (IHEA) is very disappointed in the Government’s latest
move to increase the non-refundable student visa fee from $2,000 to $2,500.
IHEA Chief Executive Officer, the Hon Dr Peter Hendy, noted that the non-refundable Student Visa
(Subclass 500) application fee has increased by 252 per cent from $710 to $2,500 in just over two
years.
“The independent higher education sector already provides $3 billion of tax revenue to the Treasury
but the Government continues to demand that students pay more and more”, Dr Hendy said
“What is particularly disappointing is the fact that this decision was a surprise to the sector with zero
consultation”, Dr Hendy said.
“IHEA will continue to advocate for the independent higher education sector and demonstrate the
value of Australia’s largest services export sector for all Australians,” Dr Hendy said.
