IHEA Warmly Welcomes Appointment of Tony Cook as Secretary of the Department of Education

Independent Higher Education Australia (IHEA) congratulates and welcomes Mr Tony Cook PSM on his appointment as Secretary of the Department of Education.

“IHEA warmly welcomes the appointment of Tony Cook as new Secretary of the Department of Education,” said IHEA CEO, Dr Peter Hendy.

“Mr Cook has a huge amount of experience working in the education sector and as a public servant, most recently as Deputy Secretary for Higher Education, Research and International at the Department, preparing him well for the higher education challenges of 2023 and beyond.”

“IHEA has been in regular contact with Mr Cook through his roles as Deputy Secretary and member of the Australian Universities Accord Panel, and we look forward to continuing this relationship as we highlight the successful contribution of independent higher education to Australia’s world-class higher education sector.”

Mr Cook will take over from current Department of Education Secretary, Dr Michele Bruniges AM, when she retires at the start of April.

“IHEA also congratulates Dr Bruniges for her many years as a public servant and educator.”
