Independent Higher Education Australia (IHEA) welcomes the reappointment of the Hon Jason Clare MP as the Minister for Education in the Albanese Government.
“IHEA looks forward to working collaboratively with Jason Clare to advance the Australian independent higher education sector and support its continued growth and global competitiveness.” said IHEA CEO, the Hon Dr Peter Hendy.
IHEA also congratulates the Hon Andrew Giles MP on his reappointment as the Minister for Skills and Training, and the Hon Tony Burke MP returning to the Home Affairs portfolio. These critical roles are essential to the success of Australia’s higher education and training sector.
IHEA welcomes the appointment of the Hon Julian Hill MP to the new role of Assistant Minister for International Education.
“We are heartened to see Prime Minister Anthony Albanese recognise the important role international education plays in the Australian economy,” Dr Hendy said.
Dr Hendy welcomed comments from the Prime Minister at a press conference today, where he is reported as saying in response to a question on the international education sector: “Overwhelmingly the sector is important and provides not just assets for Australia and income for Australia, but it also provides us to have connections with the world. This is an important industry. It’s important we get it right.”.
“IHEA will continue to advocate for policy settings that support innovation, sustainability, and student outcomes across independent higher education providers, while working constructively with the new ministers to ensure a thriving and high-quality tertiary sector,” said Dr Hendy.
