Letter to the Hon Julian Hill MP | Transitional arrangements for students who transferred providers before 2 October 2026

In a letter dated 8 October 2026, the Hon Dr Peter Hendy, on behalf of IHEA, responded to the 2 October 2026 package of changes to the Student (Subclass 500) visa program.

The letter specifically raised concerns about the extension of the restricted transfer period between education providers from six to 12 months as an interim measure until the new Student visa transfer stream commences, and the absence of transitional arrangements for students who completed a lawful transfer before the new arrangements commenced.

Dr Hendy asked the Government to urgently consider a practical transitional arrangement for this existing cohort.
